Statement by Alison Sills

I'm baffled.

LRT in Hamilton has been debated, voted on, discussed, studied, re-studied, re-voted on, re-discussed.... for 12 years. Why does Ministry of Transportation now believe that they know the right thing for Hamilton that is contrary to all that planning?

The province has been clear that they're in for $1 billion, and no more. They're still in for $1 billion. So it's not about saving money.

LRT is known to provide enormous positive economic impact to any city where it is built. Why would the province like to stall the tax base of one of its bigger cities?

This decision makes no sense, and Caroline Mulroney knew it when she wouldn't face the public last Monday.

Reinstate the LRT bid process and get the real financial information.

It's not too late to do the right thing.
