All Statements of Support

  • Karen Schulman Dupuis says,

LRT is needed to support Hamilton's growth and development. To deny it, denies the importance this city plays in Ontario's health and prosperity.

  • Pete Harding says,

Public transit infrastructure is lacking. Building the Hamilton LRT would big a big step forward in a city facing a climate crisis. In addition, secondary development in the city's long-neglected downtown core would help to stem future tax increases city-wide. The people of Hamilton made their decision on LRT in the last election. Please honour the commitments made and move forward on this important project. Thank you.

  • Ed Clayton says,

LRT Public transit is a must for Hamilton. We are asking you to live up to your commitments and past promises and see the LRT line through. This project is the backbone of a 25 year transit plan that will ensure Hamilton is in line with other surrounding municipalities in terms of revitalizing our core, reducing our carbon footprint and meeting transportation demands going forward.
It is a progressive much needed positive step in the right direction. Let's work together to be on the right side of a revitalized Hamilton History.

  • Paul Hawkins says,

Canceling Hamilton's LRT is a bad economic decision for a city experiencing strong growth and with a very bright future.

  • Sekar Kumaresan says,

    Build Hamilton LRT Now!

  • Helen Sadowski says,

Minister McKenna has indicated she wants to work with the city and province to get this project back on track. That's an important first step.
There was considerable misinformation from Caroline Mulroney on the cancellation. She only confirmed later as a result of a reporter asking for more details. that the figure of $5B which she referred to was actually for a 30 year period. It's the same figure as the province is funding to build 3 subway stops in Scarborough. The Hamilton LRT by contrast is 14 kms and 17 stops.
    Hamilton needs more public transit.

  • Larry Pattison says,

I've stated my support for this project both as an individual and as INSE and that has not changed.

Hamilton can not move forward either way with true numbers not being released.

I believe we will be successful in attaining these numbers so we can have an educated conversation about next steps.

Part of this success is everyone sharing their continued support.

  • Frances Murray says,

After 12 years of planning by city council, city staff, residents, business leaders, etc, it is unacceptable for the province to cancel the backbone of our planned transit system.

Environmentally and financially, LRT is the way to go for our busiest transportation corridor.

    Please reconsider this decision.

  • D'Arcy Bresnahan says,

It's never too late to do the right thing

  • Randall Coutts says,

Please reconsider the funding of the Hamilton LRT Project. Pulling funding will have a huge negative impact on our community. How can the Province possibly move forward if each government reverses previous decisions and tries to reinvent the wheel? We are in far too deep into the project to change the rules now. It's not fair to Hamilton and its citizens.

Please restore funding to the Hamilton LRT Project! You can save the day!

  • Emmy Arnold says,

I totally support the development of the LRT for Hamilton. I am appalled at the cancellation - such a backward step - and disgusted by the way it was handled by the Minister and the Premier.

  • Michael O'Riordan says,

Climate change is making public transportation a necessity. It seems incredibly short-sighted to rip the funds when so much work has gone into planning the service (and while so much of the world swelters in the grip on heat waves and forest fires).

Let's make the LRT happen--Hamilton wants this, needs this, and deserves this!

  • Katrina Kroeze says,

    Hamilton needs this.

  • Paul Wilson says,

Kitchener-Waterloo, Ottawa, Mississauga, Toronto all know LRT makes sense, and so does Hamilton. We have voted dozens of times in favour of moving ahead.
Please let the bids-to-build continue. In 90 days we could have real cost numbers.
Then we can look at options: tweaking the project, getting federal help.
LRT is important to move people and to build Hamilton, a city that's faced its share of struggles, but has never given up. We ask only for fairness.
    Sincerely
    Paul Wilson
    Hamilton

  • Noel Fraser says,

Just build the LRT: we want shovels in the ground in 2020. No more broken promises; give full disclosure of the cost bids.

  • Andrew Carter says,

To whom it may concern, particularly Rod Phillips, Caroline Mulroney, and Doug Ford,

Your step back from the LRT program in Hamilton is egregious, and maligned. Your efforts to take away funds from those in need to line the pockets and empower the positions of yourselves and those that best fit your goals is repugnant. Given the way you inflated the deficit left by the previous provincial government, we cannot and will not take your word on the price tag.
Your entire government is filled with corrupt and malicious reprobates, and I can not wait to see the end.

  • Richard Pascoe says,

    Premier Ford,
Your decision to cancel the Hamilton LRT is terribly unfair in my opinion and those of many many others across our province. You have dealt the City of Hamilton a very serious blow to its future prosperity from which it will not easily recover.
You gave your word and approved this project after the recent election. To cancel it now is not only unjust, it is a betrayal of your word.

  • Mike Kukucska says,

The thought of change can be unsettling for many, but pandering to those who are terrified of it is no way for a city to prosper. Cancelling the LRT will have ripple effects that we will negatively feel for decades to come. In fact, the chilling effects have been seen almost immediately. At the very least, let the bids come in and go from there- you owe us that!

  • Paul Seczek says,

Premier Ford and Minister Mulroney, please put the cancellation of the Hamilton LRT on hold until we receive the the competitive bids. This is the only way we can determine if your estimated cost of the project is accurate. The LRT is essential for the future success of Hamilton, cancelling it prematurely is irresponsible.

  • Meghan Davies says,

You’re not my people. Step down, Timbit.

  • Nicole Poulin says,

Stop using our city as a second class citizen.

  • Azher Siddiqui says,

Please reverse your decision for the sake of our planet and future generations - we need this. Please do the right thing you were entrusted with a great responsibility not just for people living today but for many future generations. Please consider not only the current upfront costs but the costs of not doing anything to create a society that is less reliant on single occupancy vehicles. Thank you.

  • Glen Brown says,

Hamilton will be better with its promised Light Rail transit line, and a fully developed connecting bus transit system. I want to see our provincial government follow through in the funding of this important project. I want the Premier to put this project back on track!
    Glen Brown, Hamilton

  • Jesse David Peterson says,

Please help to fix the huge mistake Mulroney made by cancelling the Hamilton LRT.

This is an extremely important project for the economic growth of the region, and is highly valuable to Hamiltonians.

It's nonsensical to cancel the project, claiming it will be over budget ... BEFORE the bidding process has finished.

Make no mistake, following through on Mulroney's announcement will hurt Hamilton. Don't do it!

  • Jen Jones says,

    Premier Ford:

Please reverse the decision to cancel LRT in Hamilton. Much has already started on the project (people relocated, boarded up buildings purchased and set for destruction along our East-West corridor, etc).

I believe the projected expenses quoted by Caroline Mulroney for our project were incorrect and inflated.

LRT will bring much-needed transportation improvements and new business and residential builds to our city.

Please reconsider this short-sighted decision based on doctored numbers.

  • Katherine Lamb says,

    Premier Ford,

Our community and council have already said 'yes' to LRT, not just in spirit but with tax dollars invested and buildings vacated along the corridor.

The LRT project is more than just transit, it is an investment in the future of our city and our citizens. It is a win-win that is both fuel for renewal and development, as well as an important step forward on issues related to climate change, equality, and accessibility.

It is not too late to correct this mistake and truly be 'for the people'.

    Katherine

  • David Martin says,

Premier Ford, many citizens of Hamilton have been fighting for LRT for years. If the project truly is facing challenges, allow us to keep fighting to overcome them. Let the bid process finish and give us the chance to adapt and respond to budget overruns if they occur. We can make it work!

  • Ryan Crawford says,

    Hello,

I recently heard that the LRT was "cancelled" by the Ford government. This is an incredible betrayal, not only on the face of it, but in the fine details in the cost estimate. Hamilton has planned and spent a great deal of money to get to the stage we're at. To change course now is only disrespecting the apparent fiscal responsibility that the Ontario Progressive Conservatives are trying to show themselves as.

    1) Cancelling the project before the bidding process will only hurt the Ford government because it demonstrates that you are afraid of seeing the numbers

    2) Economic intensification is partially dependant on the LRT project and cancellation demonstrates that Ontario is not "open for business". GDP projections proved that the LRT is not a loss for the province... The billion spent will give billions back to the city and province

    3) LRT is *necessary* for addressing the housing and economic crisis that Ontario (and Hamilton in particular) is and will face in the coming years

    4) Ontario is opening itself to become the subject of class action lawsuits

    5) City council, voters of Hamilton, and all the related business entities have *chosen* the LRT. Betraying these stakeholders is undemocratic.

Thank you for your attention, have a nice day,
    Ryan

  • Ray Potstra says,

Something is "fishy" about the LRT cancellation by the Province. If one were a cynical person one might think it has something to do with lack of PC representation for the city of Hamilton at Queen's Park. (Oh, Ms Skelly only represents PC interests- not Hamilton interests)

  • Bill Spenser says,

I only support one billion dollars worth of LRT. I do not support a project a dollar over the budgeted billion dollars. Please let the bids come in from the vendors so we can see what the actual cost of the project is.
