On Tuesday, October 25 at 10:30 AM, City Councillors are meeting at City Hall for a special committee meeting to discuss the Hamilton LRT plan.
They will receive an update from staff on the current status of the project. They will also likely vote to release a legal opinion by the Integrity Commissioner which argues that reversing course on LRT or even putting it to a referendum would require a "reconsideration motion" with a two-thirds majority vote.
There is also a push by a small, angry anti-LRT group to try and derail this project by stacking the meeting with LRT opponents. We cannot allow the agenda to be dominated by an angry minority that is afraid of change.
We know the daytime schedule is challenging, but please try your best to attend the meeting - even part of it.
Here are some more things you can do:
-
Please send a personal statement of support for LRT to Council if you have not already. Council needs to hear an overwhelming message of LRT support in order to counteract the small, loud opposition that has recently emerged.
-
Please sign this online petition calling on Council to get on with it. The petition reached 1,000 signatures in just two days.
-
Please share this message with your friends and associates so they also have a chance to be heard on this vitally important issue.
We cannot allow misinformation, fear of change and civic self-loathing to stop this transformative investment in Hamilton's future!
