Statement by Tom Ratcliffe
I grew up in Hamilton and know how much better a city it could be. The planned LRT network will connect the city, encourage investment and strengthen the economy. The world's most liveable cities all share robust transit services as strengths. Having such pieces in Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, Kitchener-Waterloo ... and Hamilton ... tells Canada and the world that Ontario is serious about attracting business and building appealing places to live.
Summary cancellation of the project before the RFP process concludes is rash at best, and suspicious at worst. This is not how responsible businesses or governments act.
I am asking all parties to put partisanship aside, continue with Hamilton's LRT, and challenge yourselves to manage it better than anyone else ever could.
