Statement by Lee Edward McIlmoyle

This city has long been left to waste in the dreg remains of our industrial past, which is slowly rusting away on our toxic waterfront. There has been almost no real commitment to improving labour issues, pollution, or health outcomes for all Hamiltonians in most of my nearing-49 years. We cannot bow to partisan politics on this issue. We need new transit infrastructure, new economic engines and incentives, and an end to our long-denied environmental offenses. I believe this city has been kept in a political crab bucket for decades as punishment for committing the cardinal sin of repeatedly voting for the 'wrong' political party, and that we are argumentative and divided and defeated and intractable. We're also Canadian citizens, and Ontarians, as well. We NEED our provincial premier to step up and show that even this city deserves a future... and despite all the misgivings on the part of groups who have reflexively refused to see the benefits to Hamilton's rebirth and growth that the PROMISED LRT project could still bring about. Please, Mr. Ford... reconsider this budget cut and allow the project to conclude naturally.
Thank You.
