Statement by Mishaal Qazi
Having lived in Hamilton for 6.5 years, supporting the LRT is being on the right side of history. Hamiltonians deserve economic growth, accessible transit, improved infrastructure, long-term environmental benefits, and increased opportunities to be HEALTHY and WELL by being easily connected to the City, their loved ones, their health-care providers, and their social services.
LRT is not a partition issue. It is an issue of justice. Outside of the MANY benefits that LRT brings to Hamilton, we must also remember the local business and organizations that were forced out of their homes to accommodate the LRT; the people who spent 12 years planning for the LRT; and the 40 employees.
All great things that have happened across the world have been because someone disrupted the status quo. The cancellation of LRT is a direct and vengeful attack on this city that must be reversed.
