Statement by Andrew Ivtchenkov
Public transit is necessary for a cities' residents, increasing livability for a city, fighting against climate change and developing a cities' economy.
Hamilton is a growing city and the infrastructure needs of the city needs to grow if the city doesn't want to result in a city surrounded by decaying infrastructure.
Studies show that investments into public transit spur development into the city. This system also would have included much needed road and under-road repairs. The infrastructure was nearing the end of its service life and needs dire repairs in a city with aging infrastructure. With this cancellation, Hamilton goes back in time, traffic will get worse and will remain a city that's dependent on the car and reduce development into a downtown core that needs investment to turn it into an attractive place to live.
