The City's LRT plan has $3.4 billion in federal & provincial funding. Show your support for the plan.

Statement by Ryan McGreal

Hamilton has done everything the Province told us to do. We have undertaken an unprecedented level of public engagement (1,884 residents from all wards were consulted), demonstrated overwhelming public support, completed 30% engineering and detailed design, completed a class EA that has been approved, completed a land use intensification study, and submitted our plan to the province more than a year ago.

The Province has repeatedly promised full capital funding for LRT in Hamilton, starting in mid-2007 and repeated again as recently as this past May during the election campaign. Hamilton's B-Line is a priority project in The Big Move and a top priority in the Next Wave of projects ready for funding. The Metrolinx Benefits Case Analysis was completed in early 2010.

It's time to approve the funding, finish the project and start enjoying the large overall net benefits of LRT investment.

As Transport Minister Del Duca recently said in Toronto, "We need to move forward with the actual delivering" of The Big Move instead of endlessly analyzing and discussing it.

I trust Council and the Province will commit to making this happen.
