Hamilton City Council:

I have learned that on Friday, 6 March, Councillors will receive the HSR Ten Year Local Transit Strategy, a staff report that has the potential to defer or eliminate LRT in Hamilton. I understand that the Strategy was created without public consultation and is very different from what Council directed staff to do in 2013. Staff and Council should not decide the future of transit in Hamilton behind closed doors. I ask for public consultation and careful examination of this Strategy before a decision is made that could jeopardize implementation of LRT in Hamilton.

I completely support the new Hamilton LRT plan and urge Hamilton City Council to endorse it with the overwhelming majority vote it deserves. I am pleased to see the unwavering support of all the city's anchor institutions. The benefits will accrue to our environment and to all the residents of the City of Hamilton, not just downtown residents. I hope Hamilton will live up to its aspiration as an ambitious city by seizing this one-time opportunity.
