Statement by Tory Kenny
Hamilton needs LRT, and we need it now. Saying no to a massive, historical infrastructure investment would cement Hamilton as a city of no's, a city with its head in the sand, a city ignoring climate change. Why do we insist on keeping Hamilton's poor reputation across this province? With a new LRT, focussed investments in our residents, and affordable housing, Hamilton could be a new city of tomorrow. Why do we resist such wonderful change?
Secondly, let us not allow so-called "costs" get in our way. Many will call for BRT. This is a pointless conversation. Buses cost more to operate than this proposed LRT. And, the economic benefits from an LRT, including an increased corporate tax base, is crucial to the City's success.
Let's build our LRT. For our families, for our grandparents, for our children. Everyone deserves mobility access, everyone deserves this climate change mitigation effort.
