Statement by Kim Newcombe
I have supported the LRT from the beginning. There are many benefits for the City of Hamilton. I really believe the LRT is the best option for our city. It does no not have to be perfect to be the right choice. Measured against the realistic alternatives it is still the right way to go.
We will need transit. We will want clean transit. The money is offered and earmarked for LRT. There will always be costs to provide this service both upfront and ongoing. Please consider the cost of road maintenance due to current vehicle use when assessing the value of this shift.
This is just the start. But we need to start. The price will not decrease while we wait. This is a leap of faith - towards a future that is unpredictable- but it will be here - and so will our need to move around the city!
