Statement by Kim Newcombe
I am asking Councillors to consider this moment and a future that requires green transportation. Please do not delay. The LRT is only the first piece of a revitalized system. It is just the start. This financial commitment is a one - time offer based on over a decade of work and investment that has already been done creating an opportunity to start a project based on current Federal and Provincial willingness to invest. This is an issue of timing! Seize the moment and the money! The need will not go away - but the outside resources might( most likely will!)!.
What makes you think that other levels of government will ever come to the table again with this amount of money for transit in Hamilton? Why would they , if we show no ability to move forward?
