All Statements of Support

  • Glen Brown says,

    To our municipal leaders,

I am in full support of the LRT and I encourage you to accept the federal/provincial funding package as announced recently.

It is reasonable to expect that the city of Hamilton will be able to manage and fund the LRT system once in operation, even though of course we don't have all the exact details at this early stage.

I encourage you to make your voice and your vote count for Hamilton's future.

    Vote in favour of LRT.

    Thank-you,
    Glen Brown
    Hamilton

  • Adrian Clark says,

Hamilton City Council must approve this project. You fought for the funding for so long and the city needs this project to encourage growth and investment in the future.

  • Ben Fierz says,

    I support the LRT plan.

  • Nicholas Kevlahan says,

This is a an amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity for the City of Hamilton! The Federal and Provincial governments have got together to offer Hamilton even more than we've been asking for: full funding of capital and lifecycle costs for the full 14 km line!

And there will be a huge net financial benefit to the city, with new tax revenue from an influx of development, increased fare and paid-for vital infrastructure upgrades. And the operating cost will be not much more than the current Main-King buses, and less per passenger.

And the timing couldn't be better: 7000 thousand jobs and a huge $3.4B boost to the economy just when we need a post-pandemic recovery.

    Yours sincerely,

    Nicholas Kevlahan

  • Kari Dalnoki-Veress says,

What an exciting opportunity to get LRT to Hamilton! Really hope that our leadership does not mess this up. So many golden opportunities have been lost through bad leadership....please, not this one too!

  • Steve sut says,

I have visited cities with less then a quater the population of Hamilton and have LRT its about time Hamilton gets on board, Kitchener is able to do it. WHY NOT HAMILTON?

  • Barry Reid says,

We need this mode of public transit to move this city forward and connect it in a manner that encourages the growth that we have seen in the city and want to continue to see.

  • Jim Mccoll says,

Getting buses into areas that are not currently serviced or are chronically under serviced while utilizing LRT funding and investment to repair our crumbling infrastructure is reason alone, but by fixing HSR service and implementing an effective rapid transit system plan all Hamiltonians will benefit due to reduced commute times, better access to community resources and workplaces while simultaneously reducing our impact on the environment and existing infrastructure is a no brainer.
Creating jobs using Canadian made Steel is something we must do to move forward and past this Covid-19 pandemic.

  • Claudia Leduc says,

This project will prove to support the desperate need of continued revitalization and economic growth for this amazing city. I have lived in Hamilton long enough to see it at its best and most depressed and this will go a long way into the future to support Hamilton’s recovery.

  • dave beynon says,

    Let's get this done.

  • Dolores Smith says,

Hamilton needs this to make it an even better city.Great for the economy!

  • Peter Margetts says,

The switch from vehicle traffic transport to more efficient, environmental public transit will be painful but necessary. Council needs to find money to support operating costs through increased revenue generated by transit associated business and reduced funding for traditional vehicle transit. Full BLAST transit needs to be completed.

  • Tory Kenny says,

Hamilton needs LRT, and we need it now. Saying no to a massive, historical infrastructure investment would cement Hamilton as a city of no's, a city with its head in the sand, a city ignoring climate change. Why do we insist on keeping Hamilton's poor reputation across this province? With a new LRT, focussed investments in our residents, and affordable housing, Hamilton could be a new city of tomorrow. Why do we resist such wonderful change?

Secondly, let us not allow so-called "costs" get in our way. Many will call for BRT. This is a pointless conversation. Buses cost more to operate than this proposed LRT. And, the economic benefits from an LRT, including an increased corporate tax base, is crucial to the City's success.

Let's build our LRT. For our families, for our grandparents, for our children. Everyone deserves mobility access, everyone deserves this climate change mitigation effort.

  • Allan Avery says,

I support the LRT plan with hopes that in future it's completion will propel the city and federal/provincial gov'ts into pushing ahead with a north-south LRT connecting the airport with the downtown core.

  • Alistair Ingram says,

Here is a once in a lifetime opportunity to “make no small plans” and to have someone else pay for it....

  • Christine Fandrich says,

    To Whom It May Concern,
LRT is the right thing to do for Hamilton. It is an opportunity to invest in the future of this ambitious city. We have an opportunity to finally start building something that has been in the works for 15 years. It will bring more jobs to the city and increase the tax base which can create more opportunities within the city. The downtown died and has been struggling to resurrect itself, and with an investment like the LRT, this will help it become what it once was.
The last municipal election was really a vote for LRT and the people voted yes, so we need you to do that same and do your job representing the interests of the people who voted you in.

  • Ryan LaFlamme says,

We all know the tremendous benefits, but they are worth repeating: LRT will create 7,000 jobs, provide economic uplift, increase affordable housing, cut CO2 emissions and replace aging underground infrastructure. Further, this will be a very important post-pandemic stimulus project to help kick-start our economy.

This is an "all-or-nothing" offer from the federal and provincial governments so the time for delay is over.

  • Dave Linton says,

    Make it happen.

  • Robert O'Brien says,

Please move quickly to build LRT. Declining the money would be highly irresponsible.

  • john boddy says,

I support the LRT, however my support would be even stronger if the plan was changed to have the eastbound LRT on Main street, and the west bound LRT on King Street (from the 403 to the traffic circle where King and main intersect, then a two way LRT on Main heading east, and in the west two way on Main west of the 403). King street downtown is just too narrow to have two lanes of LRT - look at the section from Wellington to John - too narrow !
change the route and I increase my support to strongly support.
    John Boddy

  • Andrea Parnell says,

Hamilton has transformed during the pandemic. More and more people have left Toronto for a better quality of life in Hamilton. Now more than ever it is essential that it have world class transit. Put Hamiltonians first!

  • Alissa Simard says,

We have been given an opportunity not only to put people to work but to propel Hamilton forward. We need to take this money and make the LRT happen, no more flaiing about. Just do it.

  • Josh Neubauer says,

The LRT and the funding available for it are an incredible opportunity to support mobility, investment, and sustainability that will benefit the entire city.

All of Hamilton's elected officials should support the project and capitalize on the federal and provincial funding that is now available.

  • Alissa Simard says,

We have been given an opportunity not only to put people to work but to propel Hamilton forward. We need to take this money and make the LRT happen, no more flaiing about. Just do it.

  • John Morris says,

Please consider this unprecedented offer of funding from multiple levels of government that will transform our city and reverse the slow decay that is overwhelming us. All you have to do is look at Kitchener/Waterloo to see how their LRT project has provided much needed uplift, vibrancy and new investment. The whole community benefits from this not just the immediate area around the line itself. I urge you to vote for this project to proceed at the earliest opportunity.

  • Alicia Looyenga says,

I live along this strip and see so many housing developments being built with more projected in the near future. The “future “ downtown density is already here and increasing. Infrastructure is needed to avoid future problems.

  • Fort Roberto says,

It's time to build it. There are too many positives not to go ahead with this project, all 3.4 billion of them.

  • Daniel Botham says,

I support LRT in Hamilton because, for more than a decade, study after study have concluded that this is the best tool for building and sustaining economic development in Hamilton. It's time for local politicians to support a good idea when they see it!

  • Wade Zacharias says,

Please support this project to invest in Hamilton, our transit, and jobs.

  • Lisa Hind says,

Dear political officials and Hamilton city planners , I am sending all of you this very important email about why Hamilton needs the LRT more than ever now . Hamilton needs a modern , efficient and environmentally greener transit system . The LRT will transport large numbers of people rapidly throughout Hamilton and to key locations as well . Job creation locally and across Ontario and Canada will be increased tor years which will help stabilize an economy struggling due to the Covid pandemic . I sincerely hope you will all take time to consider the value of an LRT for Hamilton , the many people that use an increasingly out-dated transit system and how it will bring Hamilton into the 21st century and encourage growth. Sincerely , Lisa Hind
