Shane Robertson says,
By starting with an LRT system, Hamilton can become a more cohesive and unified city. We need to move away from cars and allow for reliable movement in the city by transit. Having the LRT as an anchor will allow for that and also bring development along the transit line. This is a great opportunity that the city cannot turn down.
-
Michael Pray says,
Good Public Transit is a key to a healthier city.
-
Megan Lacy says,
Expanding public transit will make the city more accessible, less car-congested, and subsequently less polluted. When public transit is reliable, fast, and affordable people are more willing to use it to commute. It takes entirely too long to move across Hamilton via bus right now, and as the city's population continues to expand it is crucial to implement LRT as soon as possible.
-
Deborah Tompkins says,
The citizens of Hamilton have waited too long for this. Get it done. NOW. With no further votes or studies or stalling.
-
Teresa St Jean says,
This will help Hamilton’s economy greatly hands down!!
-
Laurie Nielsen says,
I can't believe that Council is *even* considering turning down this money which has been allocated for only LRT!! To those Councillors who think that BRT (not funded!) is a better option, BRT will not get the much-needed upgrade on the underground infrastructure that LRT guarantees us.
-
Imogen Clase says,
I believe that the LRT is a really good idea. As a 16 year old in the Hamilton community I understand how useful and important good public transportation is. I use the bus system all the time to get around town quickly. The LRT would greatly benefit Hamilton because it will be fast, reliable and most importantly eco friendly public transportation. I belive that the LRT the future of Hamiltonian transportation and that it will make the day to day lives of Hamilton's citizens much easier and making thier trips much more enjoyable.

Jose Zarate says,

David Wootton says,
Even though I do not live in the city, my son and grandsons do. For almost my entire life of 77 years, I have witnesses Hamilton on the decline from being an ambitious city to a rustbelt town. Hamilton is my hometown since I was born there and I want to be proud of it before I pass on. I know that Hamilton would be perceived to be a stupid city if this golden opportunity were to be turned down and business and head offices would think the same. Almost every city in the world would grasp this opportunity. If Hamilton declines, then I an sure that the Region of Waterloo would jump at the chance to extend theirs to Cambridge. Do people like Bob Bratina who in my estimation has done nothing but harm to Hamilton ( he wanted to give away part of the city to surrounding municipalities, I recall ) really believe that their taxes would go up significantly and have no foresight to realize that an L R T would attract more than enough business etc that would offset any tax increases. Do they not realize that this is just the first leg of a system that eventually would stretch to all parts of the city and benefit everyone? I cannot think of another catalyst to attract badly- needed well-paying jobs to Hamilton. I had to leave the country twice to find suitable employment in the seventies and eighties because of so-called free trade. I would never want my grand children to have to do the same. Like it or not, big business with well-paying jobs want the amenities of rapid transit. They do not want to come to a down-on-the-luck town with a loser attitude as Hamilton has been for 60 years. This is Hamilton's chance to turn things around.

Patricia Baker says,
We have lived in several cities in Europe with LRT and have been impressed with the efficiency of travel with such rapid transit. Time spent in Calgary also showed how good their system is. The financial benefits to all the cities were also evident. We need to reduce the high speed expressway traffic along Main Street and hopefully this will become possible with an altered traffic pattern.
The very small buses used in Calgary to connect to their LRT stops would be ideal here.
Look at Ottawa's BRT problems, evident in the first year of use. They are paying most of their LRT cost themselves I understand. -
Grant Ranalli says,
I have strongly advocated for Light Rail for Hamilton since 2008. The case is stronger than ever now with significant funding from both Provincial and Federal governments. Previous councills were unable to put this vital project over the goal line. I am counting on the current council to think about ALL Hamiltonians (increased tax revenue, new sewers, water infrastructure, etc) and support this project.
-
Peter Tracz says,
An unprecedented opportunity for the City of Hamilton. The time for council to propose alternatives has passed; the time to make sure this major investment in our city has value. Council should be looking at the bigger picture. They should be looking at: how HSR routes can change to best take advantage of LRT and how development and intensification along the route will benefit the city. This is no longer a political issue, it is a city management opportunity!

Joe Marin says,
I traveled the world for work for nearly 15years. I’ve probably been in over a hundred cities; successful ones, rust belt ones, tourist traps, developing world. My experience tells me that cities that invest smartly in higher order transit simply compete better. Way more large international businesses = way more job opportunities. We Hamiltonians have never been afraid of competing or adopting new ways of doing things... so why have we been putting off giving ourselves a new competitive advantage?
Some people are trying to say those of us who live in Stoney Creek or the rest of the ‘burbs don’t want this but they certainly don’t speak for all of us (maybe not even most of us). We love our city or we wouldn’t live here. A lot of us in Stoney Creek do support LRT in the Hammer because success anywhere in this town is a success for our town, we all benefit.
C’mon folks we’re 40 years late. Go go go. -
John Dunn says,
It is unthinkable that we would turn down 3.4 billion dollars of government money. This project will create thousands of jobs, economic growth and contribute to making Hamilton greener.
-
Anna Sharpe says,
Way to go with moving forward on this project. My house is right near the LRT line and this will benefit our family with our kids getting to and from school daily. When it’s built they’ll be fingers crossed going to MAC. I’m happy for all of the folks out there that will gain valuable employment during this project.
-
Maria Paszynska says,
This is very good for Hamilton. Living in the actual area where it is going I could not be happier for this to finally take place.
-
Jen Jones says,
LRT will open up a more environmentally-friendly transportation corridor from east to west Hamilton helping people get to work and school and hopefully rejuvenating the entire east-west corridor. (Next I hope for an LRT line to the airport, and connecting our LRT with the Burlington Go station and travel to Niagara-on-the-Lake/Niagara Falls.
Let’s please modernize Hamilton and get the shovels going on LRT to improve our infrastructure. There have been far too many delays to this project already. Let’s get it going. -
Kim Newcombe says,
I have supported the LRT from the beginning. There are many benefits for the City of Hamilton. I really believe the LRT is the best option for our city. It does no not have to be perfect to be the right choice. Measured against the realistic alternatives it is still the right way to go.
We will need transit. We will want clean transit. The money is offered and earmarked for LRT. There will always be costs to provide this service both upfront and ongoing. Please consider the cost of road maintenance due to current vehicle use when assessing the value of this shift.
This is just the start. But we need to start. The price will not decrease while we wait. This is a leap of faith - towards a future that is unpredictable- but it will be here - and so will our need to move around the city! -
Karen Henderson says,
It's time for Hamilton to become current with transportation and climate change.
-
Mike Belmore says,
Please just get this done.
-
Michael Gennaccaro says,
This project is long overdue! Hamilton, like the rest of Ontario needs reliable, sustainable, and efficient transportation. LRT will be pushing Hamilton into the future.
-
Gary Warner says,
I completely support the new Hamilton LRT plan and urge Hamilton City Council to endorse it with the overwhelming majority vote it deserves. I am pleased to see the unwavering support of all the city's anchor institutions. The benefits will accrue to our environment and to all the residents of the City of Hamilton, not just downtown residents. I hope Hamilton will live up to its aspiration as an ambitious city by seizing this one-time opportunity.
-
John Sharpe says,
Hamilton and it’s council can not afford to site idle once again. Hamiltonians from all boroughs resoundingly support LRT through the downtown core.
-
Alberto Guevara says,
Please vote yes, for once put the city first.
-
Eric Bruni says,
I support the building of the LRT.
I live and work on the mountain and will most likely never use the system but it is good for the future of our city.
Let's get it done. -
Brendan Duke says,
Dear Hamilton City Councillors,
LRT is a shot in the arm for Hamilton, at a time when we all need a shot in the arm. It will help revitalize our downtown, and our economy. The Hamilton LRT will replace aging infrastructure that needs replacing. At the same time it will spur new developments, strengthening our tax base so that we will be financially resilient in the future. It will connect people along the most heavily used transit corridor in our city. LRT will move students from the University to downtown where they can make Hamilton's transition from rust belt to brain belt possible. Everyone young and old will benefit from the improved car-independent mobility afforded by LRT. With no downside and so much upside, LRT is a shot in the arm we need today more than ever.
City councillors this is your time, do the right thing for Hamilton and approve LRT!
