  • George Smith says,

Ontario, Canada and the world have to get off of burning carbon- not much choice in this matter- getting a fixed light rail- with overhead power delivery- will remove a lot of vehicles from the roads as well as replace diesel burning buses- LRT- streetcars- and subways as well do attract more riders to public transit then do buses- if Ontario commits to this promised project it would show that we are doing something good for the world we all share

  • Tony Hill says,

The LRT could be built to different plans, such as streets or parts of them seldom used.It could also go at elevated levels in some places and maybe built in phases, starting with a north-south line from King William to Fennel. It could sort of follow the route planned for the never built ALRT back nearly 40 years ago. Also this city has way to many parking lots, and that could be key, having an LRT run through them and having people leave their cars at home. We've got to get some form of electric transit here once more.

  • Sandy Gaidola says,

We need the LRT in Hamilton. This will boost economy, jobs, and the future of Hamilton. I have lived in Hamilton my whole life, and i’ve seen many changes throughout the city through the years.
I feel like this is the missing piece to the puzzle. We need to make Hamilton great again because I have lost faith in the city countless times before. The city and government have let us down before with how we envisioned the city to be in 20, 30, 40 years and so on. Let’s reconsider this project and put it back on track. Thank you!

  • Mary-Jane McKitterick says,

I moved to Hamilton because of the LRT. It held the promise of a vibrant city with a future in green, publicly funded transportation. Rather than a badly planned bedroom community stuck in the last century. I'm devastated that it has been canceled and in such an underhanded way. I am a tax payer and LRT is what I want my tax dollars to do!
Its a critical part of a planned, inclusive city that reduces greenhouse gases, creates jobs, promotes small business and brings people together.

  • Frank Decurtis says,

Hamilton needs to grow and LRT will be that spark...
The city is well positioned to take advantage of Torontos fleeing residence

  • Elly Bowen says,

Hamilton is a great city. But it can be even better with the promised updated transportation system. Look at Ottawa's new LRT and Kitchener's. Yes, there were initial problems, but they can now point to huge economic gains for their cities. Allow Hamilton to do the same.

  • Yasmin Patel says,

The city of Hamilton needs an LRT

  • Matt Pinder says,

As a former resident of Hamilton, I was very disappointed to hear about the cancellation of the LRT. The Hamilton LRT is not merely a transit project - it is also a development project, aimed at transforming the city’s growth and discouraging sprawl. The development industry loves LRT projects, as evidenced by the recently completed Waterloo LRT leading to more than a billion dollars in new development already. We desperately need more projects like these if we have any hope of meeting our climate goals. Please reconsider the value of this project.

  • James Quinn says,

Pulling the plug on this LRT appears very shortsighted. If the rationale was for the protection of affordable rents or the slowing of gentrification in Hamilton I might have understood more. That does not sound like our current provincial government, does it? The bottom line is that this is something that smells of being environmentally sound and hence the Ford administration opposes it. With proper regulation holding rent tied to income to protect those living along the line, the LRT would be a net positive for the city. We need to get people out of their cars and on public transit.

  • Rob Italiano says,

The project is within the Treasury Board-approved budget, and not over-budget!

  • Brian Coleman says,

Please recommit the Hamilton LRT funding. I am currently travelling in Melbourne Australia where the tram?LRT system is fantastic and adds much value to the economy of the city. Hamilton needs the LRT>

  • Barb Ross says,

We believe in taking public transit. We bike and take the bus and we already got rid of our second car.
We voted in this council and Mayor to get the new LRT.
Our ward counsellor is on board with our LRT plan
And we have started aquiring property and planning for our new LRT i am impressed with the LRT in Waterloo. They got to do aLRT AND now its our turn to continue to grow our downtown and tie in MCMaster & the General Hospital and all the potential from the west to even farther to East Hamilton. All 3 generations in our family use public transit.
Do not take away our transit plans , our LRT.
    We voted. We chose.
We DO NOT need mOre cars.
    We need more Public Transit

  • Mike Murphy says,

As a major population centre and hub in Southern Ontario, Hamilton can benefit greatly by having a LRT system. Let’s get this going and provide a major upgrade to this vibrant city.

  • Dave Beynon says,

Lets keep the Hamilton LRT rolling

  • Sandra Emery says,

Canceling the LRT will have serious repercussions in every aspect of Hamilton’s civic life. The benefits were already obvious. This has been a project backed by a democratic process and years of planning. To cancel it in such an arbitrary and abrupt manner is unconscionable!

  • Robert Perrault says,

Having two small children and looking towards their future, the cost to start building an LRT twenty years from now most likely will be much more expensive then if we start now. The city is invested in LRT for Hamilton, and has been for some time, Hamilton is changing very quickly. Now is the time to build.

  • Nick Policelli says,

I think the LRT is a necessary project for Hamilton. The infrastructure along downtown King St needs to be done anyway. It would move more people in a more efficient manner. I think it should not have been cancelled after all the planning and initial investments. I’ve ridden the one in Toronto. We need to modernize our city.
I was very disappointed with that negative decision. Please put it back on the rails.

  • Paul Craig says,

Keep your promise to the people who voted you in. This city needs the LRT

  • John Coakley says,

The LRT makes sense for Hamilton. For clean modern transportation, the opportunity to improve infrastructure, and as a way to encourage investment. My tax dollars would be well spent on the LRT. So please build it.

  • Donna Weldon says,

    To: Premier Doug Ford
As a citizen of Hamilton I am asking that you reverse your decision to cancel LRT in Hamilton!
There has been no good evidence to support Carolyn Mulroneys statement that it would run well over proje Ted budget. And public transit like LRT will help to increase the number of people using ot and leaving their cars at home
Please reinstate LRT in Hamilton. It is the right thing to do.

  • Michael Pray says,

If Hamilton is to continue to grow as a modern city, it needs investment in modern transportation.
The initial LRT line, which the province agreed many times to fund, with the cost in line with similar projects in Mississauga and Toronto, needs to built as a part of Hamilton's comprehensive future transportation plan.

  • Rod Latner says,

please get Hamilton's LRT back on track

  • Fernando Ferreira says,

Please do not simply put up falsified figures to derail this project. The longer we wait to do it, the more expensive it will get.

  • Vicky Matteliano says,

    Mr. Ford
Bring back the LRT. Hamilton’s future depends on it.

  • Connie Smith says,

As a journalist I have followed this story for more than 30 years...just like the Linc and Red Hill Expressway which finally got built but costing umpteen million more dollars.
The system in Newcastle Australia, where I recently visited, my husband’s home town, was built in 18 months. We have to start somewhere when it comes to moving this city forward .
    Connie Smith

  • Andrew Ivtchenkov says,

Public transit is necessary for a cities' residents, increasing livability for a city, fighting against climate change and developing a cities' economy.

Hamilton is a growing city and the infrastructure needs of the city needs to grow if the city doesn't want to result in a city surrounded by decaying infrastructure.

Studies show that investments into public transit spur development into the city. This system also would have included much needed road and under-road repairs. The infrastructure was nearing the end of its service life and needs dire repairs in a city with aging infrastructure. With this cancellation, Hamilton goes back in time, traffic will get worse and will remain a city that's dependent on the car and reduce development into a downtown core that needs investment to turn it into an attractive place to live.

  • rick Cheeseman says,

The City of Hamilton has certainly done a job on itself. The flooding of the Redhill Expressway, flooding on the Beach Strip, hiding the results pf the pavement readings of the Redhill Expressway, the disastrous poisoning of raw sewage over 1,600,000,000 litres of raw sewage into our wetlands. The people of Hamilton should be dam mad and start to clean house, lets bring someone into the city, a new council and get rid of the old. They all knew and they all hid it and lied, the you will get the LRT by cleaning house.

  • Valerie Louter says,

    Premiere Ford,

I believe that Minister Mulroney made a mistake cancelling Hamilton's LRT but I know that you can fix it. It's not too late to do the right thing for Hamilton.

Hamilton has done the hard work to show our support for LRT. All we're asking for is fair treatment compared to other cities.

Please let the bid process finish. If the final bids come in over budget, we can scale back the project (like Mississauga just did) or ask the Federal Government to help.

Let's explore every option to get this transformative, progressive investment in economic development back on track so Hamilton can really be "open for business" and help drive Ontario's development forward.

    Thank you for your time.

    Valerie Louter

  • piper hayes says,

Get the Hamilton LRT back on track. Have we not learned from Toronto and other cities whose public transportation systems have very minimally changed in over 30 years. Might it need to be stated that many cities around the world are operating slower than when horses were around!!

The GTHA traffic is due to this very poor city and provincial planning. Let's not keep making the same mistake. We have to get our cars off the road.

It's 2020 and we are in a climate emergency. Efficient low carbon footprint public transit is neccessary.

  • Mary Flynn says,

LRT is the right thing for Hamilton. We’ve done all of the hard work; all we’re asking for is fair treatment. NO MORE TASK FORCE. We’ve studied this to death, let’s get it done!
