  • Gordon McNaughton says,

LRT is the best and most effective way to provide transportation to Hamilton's citizens.

  • Jason Feth says,

As a citizen of Hamilton, I strongly condemn your decision to cancel our LRT project. This project was over 10 years in the making and will transform Hamilton with the scope of it's impact.
Your numbers are simply wrong - look at other projects in Ontario and you know that they're wrong.
STOP cutting unilaterally! Work with stakeholders to look at the numbers and then determine the best way forward.

I should note that due to where I live I will very rarely use the LRT, but I believe in the greater good and in transit improvements, and therefore have always supported LRT wholeheartedly.

  • Paul Federico says,

    Disappointed on LRT pull-out

  • Ryan McGreal says,

    Dear Premier Ford,

It's not too late to fix Minister Mulroney's mistake and get Hamilton's LRT project back on track.

We were just three months away from getting the final bids from the three firms competing to build and operate the system. If the numbers went over budget then, we could look at reducing the scope (like Mississauga just did) or asking the Feds to help cover the difference.

Cancelling a competitive bidding process just before it is concluded based on secret government numbers is not "open for business".

Premier Ford, you can still fix this. You can get the LRT project back on track and look at all options to make sure it fits the budget.

Hamiltonians support this LRT. We've been advocating for it for 12 years. Council has voted 70+ times to support it. Mayor Eisenberger won re-election with a strong majority on his pro-LRT stance.

Last year, you said, "I support building the Hamilton LRT because the people of this great city deserve a working transit system. This is an investment that will create jobs, countless new jobs and stimulate economic development." That's still true - we need your help and leadership to be an engine of growth and prosperity for Ontario.

Please fix this mistake and get Hamilton LRT back on track!

  • William Harvey says,

Not enough votes in Hamilton for the Ford Cons. I believe they need money for the Scarborough subway fiasco in Toronto which has more votes for Ford. Would be money well spent in Hamilton. Not on Scarborough subway.

  • Anthony Morgan says,

I want this to connect our city, stabilize us on the map as a city, and foster a greater economy for everyone's future.

  • David Galston says,

    Absolutely, strongly, support LRT.

  • Stanley Cherwaty Cicci says,

Hamilton seems to be a sucker for punishment we screwed up urban renewal way back gave up Free Sky Train Hello which is doing great in B.C. Almost blew new stadium Hello people take the gift put the LRT in lets not be know as losers. BoxJDadStan.

  • Krzysztof Apriasz says,

City needs to grow, and LRT is needed!

  • Rachel LaFrance says,

As a resident of the east mountain (ward 9)- one would think I can't see the point of the LRT system as so many of my neighbours do. Their views are however, shortsighted.

This city is at crossroads. We are growing too quickly and the transit system and infrastuture cannot keep up with demand. There is a projected 30% population increase in the city over the next 20 years. We need a bigger, better plan than widening some roads and patching potholes.

Mountain residents are not being made aware that the LRT is phase 1 in the BLAST plan. The other phases will drastically help the mountain residents and free up current buses to be utilized in more outlying areas. It is clean, quiet, accessible, and the way of the future. There is zero guarantee that the Provincial government will let us use these funds for anything other than what it has been earmarked for. Especially in light of the ever-growing provincial deficit. We have already spent millions upon millions in planning and environmental assessments which will be wasted if this project is cancelled. The tax boom from people investing in this city will mean millions of dollars back in the city budget. This is a win-win for the City of Hamilton.

We need to stop doing things the way we have always done them. We need to look to the future of this city and find new and innovative ways to make it competitive and sustainable. I sincerely urge our city counselors to vote YES for the LRT. Make this city into the gem it could be.

  • Juan Bonilla says,

I'm a suburban father of three -Ward 14. Both my wife and I work and drive to and from work every day. I am not happy about my taxes, but I understand where they go and why I have to pay them.

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY SUPPORT THE LRT project. I've seen other oppportunities for this city to develop and revitalize its core come and go, and I strongly hope we don't let this opportunity get squandered.

LRT is GOOD for the CITY, it is GOOD for all of us, urban and suburban. Candidates who are trying to make it a political stepping stone (looking straight at you Mr. Sgro) will NOT get my vote.

I might disagree with a few of Mr. Eisenberger's politics, more specifically the rainbow crossings imposed on us and paid for with our taxes, but because of the LRT issue, I am voting for Mayor Fred to be re-elected.

  • Mary-Jane McKitterick says,

The LRT is a critical pillar of our transportation network and infrastructure that will benefit drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, people with disabilities, seniors, students from K to post secondary, homeowners, service industry workers and countless others. It will benefit our tax base, economic growth particularly for small and medium sized businesses, our shared air quality and green spaces. It is the backbone of BLAST and without it, BLAST will be greatly diminished to the extent that it will not have a measurable impact. The LRT and is the essential catalyst for Hamilton to be a "Life Sized City" and join the 21st Century in a planned and progressive way.

  • Ellen Morris says,

My understanding is ~ City council has voted 68 different times to go forward with LRT. How many more times ........

  • Ute Schmid-Jones says,

I am supportive of LRT Development in the City of Hamilton.

  • Kat Bezner says,

It's important that the LRT project continues to go ahead. This project will benefit all citizens of Hamilton as well as the city's aging infrastructure. It's a win/win scenario. It will help reduce particle emissions by reducing car use because it will be a more reliable and trustworthy transportations for all too. Let's take Hamilton into the future.

  • Sekar Kumaresan says,

    LRT is the path forward!
Do the work, to move ahead!
Raise the Hammer and a community shall spread!

  • Faz Patel says,

Hamilton has historically been behind major cities but with the influx of people from other outer cities and individuals from other countries, the population has really grown. The growth is also giving Hamilton a diverse culture. We need modern transportation to sustain the growth and move people around.
This will also help the university and help students live in areas with affordable housing while attending university.
Invest in the future, invest in Hamilton and make this city great again!!!

  • Tim McClemont says,

I support LRT! It's a necessary investment in our City.

  • Ryan Cornell says,

  • Peter Inman says,

Light rail trains should be powered using Electric Self Propelled (ESP) technology, eliminating the need for overhead wires that are very expensive to construct and maintain. Overhead wires are 18th century technology that is ugly and not climate change resilient. Electric energy storage technology has improved dramatically over the past few years and is now the preferred solution for 21st century light rail transit.
I can provide further information and a presentation at your convenience.

  • Amber Edgar says,

Please move through with LRT and let Metrolinx operate it, PLEASE. HSR is a disorganized mess with missing/late or full buses. It's usually quicker for me to walk from point A to B than it is to catch a bus and I've lived both on the escarpment and downtown. That being said I'm physically fit and in my 30s. If I was older, disabled or had children and relied on the HSR... life would be so much harder. LRT is an incredible opportunity for Hamilton. Please follow through with it and have the people with the experience (Metrolinx) in charge of operations.

  • Peter Moore says,

Please go ahead with the original plan to have Metrolinx run LRT in Hamilton. They have experience with running such things and, well, that's kind of important, isn't it?

  • Ron Jones says,

LRT in Hamilton is critical for the ongoing evolution of the city into a dynamic, robust and exciting urban environment, providing amazing opportunities for live, work and play in downtown Hamilton. Not to mention a huge boost to the city's tax base. This MUST happen. Metro linx should run it...

  • Luckas Stephenson says,

I think you should make it a square so it comes up the mountain but also goes down instead of making it just down town it makes it harder for us on the mountain when theres a easier way to get to places but we either going to have to walk down the mountain brow stairs or bus down there

  • Mohamed-Mutasim Mohamed says,

While I support Hamilton's light-rail transit (LRT) project, in my view it must be coupled with bus rapid transit (BRT) corridors linking various communities, i.e. Hamilton Mountain-Burlington, Hamilton Downtown-Stoney Creek Mountain.

I have lived in Edmonton during recent studies. Edmonton not only has an LRT system, but Edmonton is contemplating reducing the number of regular bus routes by consolidate them into BRT routes which complement the LRT system. The goal is to increase commute time by reducing number of stops.

Hamilton should share this vision; it should have a BRT system with dedicated bus lanes running alongside the LRT and through dense corridors. A BRT system which complements the LRT system would make commuting efficient and timely; these are essential if Ontario's economic powerhouse--namely, the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area--is to continue to churn and increase its productivity (stress caused by commutes, I venture, probably reduce employee productivity).

  • Michele Morren says,

    I proudly support LRT!

  • Andrew Ferrara says,

An lrt can be an important tool in spuring the urban renewal and growth of Hamilton.
