  • Sherry Parsley says,

I support LRT in Hamilton. Good for our local economy, good for small business, and most importantly, good for people.

  • Audrey Patocs says,

As a lifetime Hamilton resident, McMaster University graduate, and a property owner in the downtown core, I have great hopes and expectations for the city's renaissance in the post-steeltown era. If the city is going to thrive economically and culturally, it needs people to live in it, not just drive through it on their way home to the suburbs. LRT is part of the package that will help to create a city core that is populated by healthy people and businesses.

  • nancy henderson says,

homework appears to have been done and funding secured. lets move on this one and not let second-best options be the default.

  • Peter Kwakernaak says,

    Support for LRT

  • Jason Leach says,

As a resident of Hamilton it has been exciting to see our city develop plans for the first of several LRT lines that have the potential to transform the way we travel in this city, and to change the economic climate.
For too long Hamilton's old urban neighbourhoods have been ignored and have seen little economic investment for many decades. These same residents, along with provincial and federal funding partners have spent hundreds of millions in building suburban infrastructure in every corner of this city to support outlying growth, wider roads, new highways, big box plazas, residential communities and business parks.
For the first time in my 37 years in this city, we actually have the opportunity to invest in a transformational infrastructure project, beginning in the old, depressed urban parts of the city.
It's not 1970 anymore. It's 2014 and every single politician locally and provincially understands the huge shift in trends taking place in cities around Canada and the World. Our direct competitors: K-W, Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, Ottawa and Burlington all understand the way of the future and are building, or planning LRT lines.
Hamilton deserves the opportunity to compete on a level playing field with these cities as we move into the future.

I'm not aware of a single Canadian city that built an LRT line, and didn't see huge economic growth along the route, and I'm not aware of a single city that hasn't repeatedly expanded the system once experiencing this tremendous growth.

Please commit to your promise of 100% capital funding for Hamilton's B-Line LRT and show the same level of faith and desire for growth here as you have in Toronto.

    Thanks

  • Chris Sanislo says,

Including LRT in our city-building infrastructure make good, proven sense for Hamilton and surrounding region. We need to spur commercial investment downtown, minimize the continued sprawl to the suburbs. This will breed further investment and retain talent currently hopping on the GO Train to Union Station every morning. We need to make downtown a better destination where living and working is enjoyable. A priority in public transportation can achieve that friendly, liveable urban setting that people want to be a part of.

  • Jason Berg says,

As an Ontario taxpayer I am a strong supporter of Hamilton LRT

  • Tor Lukasik-Foss says,

this city desperately needs to encourage and de-stigmatize public transit. Light Rail, bike lanes, extended Go Service, are all appropriate and overdue steps toward this goal.

  • Ryan McGreal says,

Hamilton has done everything the Province told us to do. We have undertaken an unprecedented level of public engagement (1,884 residents from all wards were consulted), demonstrated overwhelming public support, completed 30% engineering and detailed design, completed a class EA that has been approved, completed a land use intensification study, and submitted our plan to the province more than a year ago.

The Province has repeatedly promised full capital funding for LRT in Hamilton, starting in mid-2007 and repeated again as recently as this past May during the election campaign. Hamilton's B-Line is a priority project in The Big Move and a top priority in the Next Wave of projects ready for funding. The Metrolinx Benefits Case Analysis was completed in early 2010.

It's time to approve the funding, finish the project and start enjoying the large overall net benefits of LRT investment.

As Transport Minister Del Duca recently said in Toronto, "We need to move forward with the actual delivering" of The Big Move instead of endlessly analyzing and discussing it.

I trust Council and the Province will commit to making this happen.

  • Catherine Cox says,

The B-line LRT is Hamilton's single most important infrastructure project for a generation: it has the potential to help Hamilton achieve its economic and social potential as one of Canada's most dynamic cities.

This is why, beginning in 2007 the Province has funded and encouraged Hamilton to do the necessary engineering design, land use planning, economic studies and public engagement to make this project a success.

The Rapid Ready report, unanimously supported by council in 2013, was Hamilton's submission to the province fulfilling everything the Province had asked the City for its B-line LRT.

In 2007, 2011 and 2014 the Provincial government has promised LRT for Hamilton. We've done our homework, the project is feasible and has a big net benefit.

Now is the time to make it happen! Don't let this once in a generation opportunity pass us by.

  • Scott Summerhayes says,

The City of Hamilton is wasting time even debating this. We know the benefits, we know the price, we have the facts, the jury should not still be out on this. If we are going to renew our city and call it ambitious again, we need to prove that we are ready to take control of development and make decisions big and small. LRT is the next step and tripping over it is not an option.

  • walter furlan says,

We need to move forward with lrt asap.
The way the transportation of people is structured in Hamilton is not sustainable nor is it ecologically sound. We will pay many times more as we wait and debate.

  • Mark Chamberlain says,

A successful case for LRT has been made based on assumptions and aspirations that both describe and define the city I want to live in. The only risk - leadership. Leadership to aspire and leadership to implement.

  • Sarah James says,

The backtracking remarks coming from city council on LRT are clearly unresearched and baseless, and, quite simply, make a mockery of this city. It's time for city council to follow through, and it's time for Hamiilton to grow.

  • Krist Hayes says,

I believe that a LRT system will be a crucial step that Hamilton needs to invest in as we continue to develop into of the most dynamic cities in Canada. Between increased GO service, continued investment in cycling infrastructure and hopefully with LRT, I see little reason to continue car ownership. This is a vision that is environmentally conscious, and I fully support it.

  • James Rockwood says,

My family of 5 all support LRT and we support those politicians that support LRT. We do not support, nor will we in the future, those politico's that refuse to listen to their constituents. (all of them, not just the screechy ones that have nothing better to do than gripe about the poor state of our City).

  • Glen Carroll says,

    Build it!!

  • Toby Yull says,

LRT, yes please! Would love to see it go past McMaster to the transit hub at University Plaza, Dundas. People in Dundas are hungry for a connection to the East-West line.

  • Bob Manojlovich says,

Millions of dollars spent on studies and planning should make this a no brainer, game changer for Hamilton. But the befuddling mayor is beyond comprehension when he is consistently telling untruths and purports to know more than the experts, and studies.

  • Tony Higgins says,

I feel that our city is on the verge of squandering a great opportunity. An above ground subway along a corridor that is already used by thousands of citizens. It is no wonder people who study public transit (experts) are in favour of a B line LRT.

There is a generation of creative entrepreneurial-minded young people that have been priced out of Toronto. They don't want to own cars. They want to live in urban spaces connected by high quality public transit. They are our future.

We need to be bold and move this city in a new direction.

  • Agnes Richard says,

In everything municipalities consider for the future, the climate must be part of the equation. Although the initial cost of LRT is higher than BRT, the short and long term benefits for Hamilton's environment and economy are far greater, AND THE PROVINCE IS COMMITTED TO PICKING UP THE TAB. I would very much like the future Hamilton to look like a modern, vibrant community and I believe LRT transit can get us there far better than BRT.

  • Lindsey Jacobs says,

We need this, I would use it for sure, never take the busses. Would be great for this city.

  • Matt Meier says,

We cannot afford to let this incredibly city-changing opportunity slip.

  • Crystle Numan says,

I believe the LRT is worth any investment. I will use it!

  • Ryan Marshall says,

An opportunity that could change Hamilton's future, be a catalyst for more development and a green form of transit....why not. Full support.

  • Kelly Garrison says,

If you build they will come...I came back to my home Hamilton after leaving over 12 years ago.. said I would never return. I came back and bought a house in the heart of the Hammer because I believe Hamilton with the proper leadership and forward thinking can be all she was meant to be. Hamilton's biggest problem is Hamilton. Please get on board with LRT and look at the big picture of how it benefits this great city in the long run, we do not need to be a second class city to Toronto.

  • Laura Macdonald says,

I support LRT for the economic growth Hamilton needs. I support LRT for the downtown revitalization Hamilton needs. I support LRT as part of building complete streets that Hamilton needs.

    Hamilton needs LRT.

  • Marnie Burgess says,

Big cities need SERIOUS public transit. No one will choose inferior public transit over their cars. LRT is the future!

  • conrad galambos says,

Please, take advantage of opportunity Hamilton. Let's move forward and not make it painful, as usual.

  • Erinn Turnbull says,

The Ontario government made a commitment to fund light rail transit in Hamilton and needs to deliver on that commitment regardless of the campaign related misinformation now being spread around - the city and council of Hamilton is in clear support of LRT, a decision reached after many years of research and reports, no more of that should be required to move forward with the approved approach.
