Sebastian Irazuzta says,
It’s well overdue to start this critical mass transit project. This has been discussed long enough. The answer is clear, we need to move forward and get shovels in the ground. Please make this happen for the good of present and future Hamiltonians.
-
Mark Darovny says,
There is no reason to delay negotiation of the Memorandum of Understanding. There will still need to be approval of the MOU once it is complete, therefore an agreement to negotiate does not mean the MOU is binding!
In the meantime, city staff should keep plugging away on estimates for the costs, revenues, and savings related to LRT... in terms of its impacts on the finances, fare revenue, and operation of the HSR, its impacts on the development pattern of the city (and subsequent implications for both central city and suburban/greenfield infrastructure and service costs, tax revenue, etc.), the costs of NOT implementing LRT, its social benefits, and any other opportunities related to it such as using King-Main corridor buses to improve service in the suburbs and start running express service along the other portions of the BLAST network.
-
Julie Gelder says,
Not sure really why this is still being debated - it should have been done, and up and running years ago. And would still have liked to see it actually running to both the eastern and western city limits. What's not to like though?
-
Alexander White says,
While it is important to push for details on the deal from the Ontario/Canadian governments, this is an exceptionally positive offering and important opportunity for the whole City of Hamilton. As such, it should not be wasted.
-
Allison Branston says,
An investment in public transit is an investment in Hamilton's future...and when someone else pays for infrastructure updates and expansions you should say yes, seriously.
-
Richard Gelder says,
We need to get on with building light rail transit in Hamilton.
This is a generational opportunity to enhance transit in the busiest corridor of the city and to avail ourselves of needed cash to address long-neglected infrastructure needs. Further, we need smart development and LRT has been shown to promote dense development that expands the city’s tax base.
Do. This. Now.
-
James/Margery Munn says,
beautiful buildings and open spaces are being sacrificed just so lazy people can save steps and drive door to door
-
Edgardo Moreno says,
If we delay and pass this up we will be the laughinstock of the country. LRT Has proven to improve cities all over the world. Councillors that oppose it will be remembered as against city building. Sad that this is not a slam dunk. Get on with it.
-
Brittany FitzGreen says,
Please start this LRT program.
It has been so long in the waiting, dozens of people aready lost their homes and businesses and have moved on. This should not be in vain. In 20 years, our city will be better for this program.I lived in Geneva Switzerland for 5 years, they had LRT and the one thing I noticed was that mothers and parents with strollers have more access to public transit than even with kneeling busses. Also elderly move around more freely when the transit is at low level.
This is vital. Our city is a car city and we need to move forward.
LRT now - Later we can do BRT or other programs.
Lets please start this. -
Lilly Noble says,
To Mayor and Council,
Getting an LRT for Hamilton is a once in a lifetime opportunity to reshape how we move and build in Hamilton. Can we really afford to say no to $3.4B in investment in the city? It's a great way to fight climate change and create more liveable neighbourhoods with fast and efficient transit.
I look forward to your vote to accept a new LRT for Hamilton. -
Dermot Nolan says,
Please don’t backtrack or dither on the LRT project. Trust your first instincts which were to approve the LRT unanimously and invest and expropriate in preparation for it, which you have boldly done in the spirit of the Ambition City. It will be a game changer for our city.
Remember what Shakespeare wrote in Julius Caesar:“There Is a tide in the affairs of men
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat;
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures,” -
Arlene Quackenbush says,
I am in support of the LRT. . I see this initiative as contributions to employment an urgent need presently. The project will generate further positive elements in our city in future with reducing pollution, supporting cultural enrichment, and helping to eliminate gridlock on King street during rush hour.
A gift of Federal money should never be wasted. Let’s move forward and pass the legislation necessary to get this project underway!! It is my hope that council stop dragging their feet on this issue. Now is the time! -
Andrew Buxton says,
LRT is a long overdue city building project. Well past time to get Hamilton moving,
-
Phil Van Impe says,
Enough is enough. Time to get on with this massive project.
-
Nino Leo says,
Stop the delays and get the shovels in the ground. Don't blow this opportunity we will never see this funding again. Hamilton counselors will be a laughing stock!!! GET IT DONE
-
Ratka Skorucak says,
Making LRT decision it looks dealing with kindergarten children, not even with high school. Making changes in Hamilton takes unbelievable long time.
This one is closer to decade waiting.
In the meantime losing money and time to go for other opportunities. -
Warren KOROL says,
We have waited long enough for this. Do the right thing and vote yes.
-
Chris Cotoi says,
If the Council doesn't move forward with the LRT project it will be the biggest mistake from all Councils ever.
-
Suzanne Zandbergen says,
It's time to get the LRT project back in progress. This is the first important step in creating the transit system Hamilton is going to need as its population grows. Other cities have already proven that an LRT has a multitude of benefits. The time of inaction and pondering is long over, we desperately need this project to get under way now. The money is being handed to us to finish the job, there is no question that council must vote to proceed.
-
Grant Ranalli says,
I have supported LRT for Hamilton, vocally and in print since 2008, shortly after joining the Hamilton Light Rail group.
All the arguments for the system made sense way back then, and with full capital and life-cycle cost funding, make even more sense now - to the point where I cannot understand continued opposition to this game-changing project. Let's get on with the MOU and get shovels in the ground! -
Maris Lukss says,
Please get on with this project. This has become an embarrassing situation. For years the province had been playing financial games with Hamilton. Now money is being thrown at us to get this done. This isn't the time for hand wringing and wondering what's what. Plans have been made. Routes chosen. People evicted from homes and businesses. Assessments competed. Time you start building. To cancel this project now will send the wrong message to the citizens affected already, and will also guarantee little support in the future from the Province or Federal government. Enough is enough. Get it built. My vote depends on it!
-
Frances Murray says,
Please think of Hamilton as a whole city and the future we want to build.
-
Blair Anderson says,
It would be desirable to show all stakeholders that Hamilton is interested in moving this project forward without anymore delays. Please act accordingly.
-
Robert Spiering says,
I will only vote for a Councilor who approves the LRT. We shouldn’t waste this opportunity to advance public transportation in our city.
-
Kim Newcombe says,
I am asking Councillors to consider this moment and a future that requires green transportation. Please do not delay. The LRT is only the first piece of a revitalized system. It is just the start. This financial commitment is a one - time offer based on over a decade of work and investment that has already been done creating an opportunity to start a project based on current Federal and Provincial willingness to invest. This is an issue of timing! Seize the moment and the money! The need will not go away - but the outside resources might( most likely will!)!.
What makes you think that other levels of government will ever come to the table again with this amount of money for transit in Hamilton? Why would they , if we show no ability to move forward?
Please get started now. This is what I voted for! -
Sonja De Pauw says,
The LRT in Hamilton is important to help reduce climate change, to replace old infrastructure, and provide transportation on a daily basis to Hamiltonians. Some of our councillors seem to have forgotten what it means to be 'the ambitious city'. To them I say: Think of the big picture, think progressively, think inclusivity, and think of our future generations.
-
Daniel Morris says,
How many times has Council voted to accept this one-time offer to take advantage of almost three and a half billion dollars to install an LRT line? I’m guessing this is about the 48th vote.
Infrastructure needs to be replaced, businesses need to become established, people have to know that their city is not being relegated to the backwaters of progress because a few city councillors can’t seem to understand that this LRT is not just about their re-election or their under-informed constituents.
The LRT is about progress, about constructing a modern urban environment and is best for people and for the economy, not protecting the fastest car route through Hamilton.
-
Ellen Southall says,
Please act immediately to sign the motion to continue with LRT which will be very very good for Hamilton.
-
Andrew Pettit says,
We need to get busy building our Hamilton for the future! This is a gift horse of incredible proportions to that end. Due diligence, yes, but don't look it in the mouth for too long or risk it leaving us behind!!
YESSSS LRT!!
Andrew

Kris Gadjanski says,
From a purely economic standpoint LRT is a wise investment. Funds for upgraded infrastructure along the route will free up money for projects in other wards. Increased tax revenues from businesses along the route will benefit the entire city. Operational funds for the LRT are very similar to current HSR operation funds. LRT would be a huge net benefit to the coffers of the City of Hamilton.
Saying no to this significant investment in the long-term economic well-being of the City would be financial suicide and sets Hamilton on a continued path to economic hardship.
