  • yong yeo says,

I would like to see Hamilton LRT done because it definitely help people in Hamilton go forward.

  • Elizabeth Avetissian says,

The LRT is vital to Hamilton’s economic development.

  • Gavin Lewis says,

The withdrawal of funding for the LRT is a callous mistake on behalf of the province. Cost overruns, especially in a government who is vehemently against overspending is understandable, yet this contradicts with the 148~ million dollars already spent on pre-construction! As a younger resident of the city, I would stand to benefit incredibly from rapid transit.

My generation will benefit profusely from this project, and pulling the plug will prove near-catastrophic for the development of the city.

  • Scott Payette says,

I have always been a staunch supporter of Hamilton's LRT project, warts and all, and was looking forward to the day when the contract was to be signed. I have also voted for the Ford government in the belief that they would actually be more trustworthy then their predecessors. I was never more wrong in my life. That f***tard of a premier just gave the citizens an enormous middle finger. I am ashamed that I voted for him (them) and will correct my mistake for every election in the future.

  • Rob Italiano says,

Hamilton decided to keep the name "Hamilton Street Railway" back in 1951 when they decided to replace their streetcar system with 3 ELECTRIC trolley COACHE Routes and the rest diesels. They even kept the name in 1992 after ELIMINATING ELECTRIFIED public transportation in their city ALTOGETHER, making TORONTO the ONLY city in Ontario WITH it! They COULD have changed the name to "Hamilton Transit Commission, Hamilton Transit Authority" or even just PLAIN "Hamilton Transit!" They didn't! They decided to KEEP the name "Street Railway" because it reminded them of their GLORY days back when STREETCARS were the MAIN reason it was a GREAT city! EVER since the fall of the public transportation network, Hamilton has DECLINED in size and population, the DOWNTOWN CORE area has become DESERTED, AND it is now NOTHING but a GHOST town! People of Hamilton DESERVE MUCH better, and they CANNOT wait ANOTHER 30 years for this to HAPPEN, or it will be WAY TOO late! It is time to help Hamilton get back it's LITERAL STREET RAILWAY, that is what the Light Rail System can DO! Let's do the right thing and make Hamilton GREAT again!

  • John Mark Fedore says,

    Reverse LRT decision

  • Andrew Allen says,

So much of Hamilton's future is depended on the LRT, the city has spent over a decade on this, it would be such a shame to ignore all of the work and progress the city has committed.

  • Rob Cooke says,

Please restore the funding to Hamiltons LRT project. This us an integral part of our developing city and will be a driving support economic development. Modern cities deserve modern transit.

  • Eric Windhorst says,

    Dear elected leaders,

As a Hamilton resident, I write with shock after learning that the Ontario government has decided to withdraw funding for Hamilton's proposed LRT system.

I remember Premier Ford just last year touting the Hamilton LRT project "as an investment that will create jobs, countless new jobs and stimulate economic development." I have no doubt that this LRT-driven economic development would have resulted in increased tax revenue - which would have benefited all Hamilton residents, and the Province of Ontario more widely.

    What (so suddenly) changed?

I urge Premier Ford to rescind Minister Mulroney's decision and to follow-through on his government's promise to provide funding for Hamilton's proposed LRT system.

    Thank you.

    Eric Windhorst, PhD

  • Joanne Hudspith says,

I understand that many Hamiltonians don't feel there is a need for the LRT, but we need to remember that the LRT is for the benefit of future generations of Hamiltonians, not necessarily the ones who are voting against it today.

We need to think ahead to when fewer people will be able to afford and operate cars, and make transit the most convenient and fastest way to get through the city.

I live downtown Hamilton, and see the new condos and apartment buildings that are going up all around me, some of them built with the understanding that the LRT would be built as well - is this the way we want to show people that Ontario (and Hamilton) is open for business?

  • Danielle Steenwyk-Rowaan says,

Let's think ahead to the Hamilton we want, a Hamilton that is more connected, easier to navigate, and greener.

  • Janice Lamb says,

Extremely disappointed that this project has been cancelled! We need the LRT to happen for our residents' transportation needs! It will help with dealing with climate change and new needed infrastructure as well as jobs and opportunities for business! I'm certain there are ways to make this happen!

  • Christopher Hampson-Curtis says,

It's time for a light rail transit system in Hamilton. The current public transportation system consists solely of buses, and has become outdated and unreliable.

The buses travel at a slow pace, often stuck in traffic an LRT train would avoid. They are often untimely, arriving either late or early to their stops. Transferring is often necessary, and increases the travel time significantly. Many of the buses still run on diesel fuel, which pollutes the air and leaves a lingering smell in city streets.

All of these issues could be greatly improved with the introduction of an LRT. Not only would a train move more people more efficiently and sustainably, it would also hold the potential to attract business to Hamilton. Updating the transit system would demonstrate that Hamilton maintains its relevance in global affairs such as combating climate change, and more localized affairs such as providing transit alternatives for people going to work and seeking leisure.

With approximately 180 million dollars and 12 years of planning already invested in this project, it is a colossal waste of time, money and the hard work of Hamilton city council to cancel it because of projected monetary costs. Let the LRT be built, and let Hamilton prosper for it.

  • Steve Sut says,

Live a block away from the B Line stop. Traveled to Europe many times and rode their LRT’s in many towns much small them Hamilton some larger....it was so much smoother ride and comfortable.

  • Ben Brittain says,

How many people are moving to Mississauga because they want to escape the city's high cost of living and operating a business? Not as many as Hamilton. Support Hamilton and you're supporting Ontario growth, start the project now before you regret not making this decision when you had the chance.

  • Raziel Daivion says,

"I support building the Hamilton LRT because the people of this great city deserve a working transit system. This is an investment that will create jobs, countless new jobs and stimulate economic development." - Doug Ford

  • Guntars Silders says,

Canceling the Hamilton LRT is a mistake. Please reconsider this unfortunate decision.

  • Kairi West says,

We need this for our city.
Let us finish what we started.

  • zac willms says,

The amount of money this will bring to the city in the massive ripple effect should also be looked at not only will this help bring jobs but also make it easier for everyone to work downtown and get there much easier and faster. Also, there are already many projects happening along the route that is helping clean up King street that will likely be scrapped if this project does not go through

  • Alex Moroz says,

The LRT needs to be completed, as promised. The benefits of an LRT outweigh any negatives. Time to let Municipal Elected Official make local decisions not a Provincial issue as to what is right for Hamilton transit needs. A task force is another waste of time and money as the decision to build an LRT was already made by the people in Hamilton.

  • Franz Perez says,

Help bring Hamilton's infrastructure to the 21st century and connect our metro areas.

  • Stephen Park says,

Cancelling the LRT funding at this point in the process is not necessary and leaves so many questions unanswered. There are opportunities to test the claims around costing. Given recent examples in Kitchener-Waterloo it seems unlikely that Minister Mulroney’s figures are reasonable.

Other projects are moving forward, including the one in Mississauga, so Hamilton, which has done the hard work of getting to this point deserves to at least progress to the bid process and see what suns are required.

Please reconsider this decision and announcement.

    Thank you
    Stephen Park

  • Shannon Kehler says,

It's just too late to cancel this project.
The LRT is important to not only Hamilton, but the entire GTHA. With the massive growth and migration of home owners still working in Toronto, the project is a smart and already progressing one.

  • Stephen Caulfield says,

One of Ontario's most important cities deserves great public transit not this shabby attack.

  • Gaddiel Corlin says,

    This cancellation is a mistake

  • Ben Wilson says,

Premier Ford, you are killing our city's long-planned revitalization efforts. We are losing a lot more than better transit... Not to mention 5,000 badly needed jobs.

    Please re-think this one

    Ben

  • Mickael Julliard says,

Uncancel the Hamilton LRT. It was going to be nothing but brilliant for the region.

  • Cheryl Paterson says,

We are fortunate to be spending time in Europe this holiday. In Europe, they invest in public transportation. Shocking that the Ford government broke its promise to Hamilton.

  • Barry Diacon says,

The Ford Government in Ontario is totally incoherent except in its political partisanship. It promised to continue support for LRT in Hamilton and, based on these statements, developers have pored 100's of millions of dollars into developments along the route of the LRT.
The traffic along King and Main streets in Hamilton is a major pedestrian hazard. The pollution from thousands of autos continues to increase.
Ford recently criticized Hamilton for electing NDP MPPs. Then, shortly after that statement he sends his flunky, Mulroney, to Hamilton to cancel the LRT. Then they continue to maintain the incoherent statement that the $1 Billion is still available to Hamilton when about $160 million of that $1B. has already been spent to acquire properties along the route. These properties are now boarded up creating the opposite effect of the urban rejuvenation that the LRT had foretold.

  • Jordan Baker says,

Hamiltons growing population demands a light rail transit system
